Report: Roberto Martinez staring at Everton sack with board due to meet

Everton are reportedly due to hold a board meeting on Friday in which the future of under-fire manager Roberto Martinez will be discussed.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has reportedly edged closer to leaving the Toffees, with the club's board said to be holding a meeting to discuss the Spaniard's future tomorrow.

Martinez led Everton to a fifth-place finish in his first season in charge, but last term the Merseyside outfit dropped to 11th and now they lie 11th again with no win in seven Premier League games.

Last weekend they had the chance to reach the FA Cup final but lost to Manchester United in stoppage time at Wembley to crash out at the last-four stage, like they did earlier this season to Manchester City in the League Cup.

Supporters have unveiled banners in recent weeks calling for Martinez's head and, according to The Telegraph, the Spaniard could be sacked next week if the meeting goes badly and Everton lose at home to Bournemouth on Saturday.

If Everton fail to beat the Cherries this weekend, it will be the first time since December 1999 that they have gone eight top-flight games without a win.
