Falkirk hold on to beat Dumbarton

Falkirk hold on to beat Dumbarton 2-1 at Falkirk Stadium and move top of the Scottish Championship.

Falkirk have moved to the top of the Scottish Championship after holding on for a 2-1 win over Dumbarton at Falkirk Stadium.

Last season's Scottish Cup finalists Falkirk were unbeaten in their first three league games of the season and took the lead with just five minutes on the clock when Blair Alston controlled a loose ball in the box and fired in off the crossbar.

The home side doubled their lead nine minutes later when Craig Sibbald was allowed to cut in from the right too easily by Dumbarton's defence before curling into the top corner.

The goal flurry continued after 27 minutes when Gregor Buchanan headed a corner back across goal and Darren Barr turned the ball home to get the visitors back into the game.

Danny Rogers beat away Willie Gibson's shot as the Sons tried to find an equaliser, before Grant Gallagher was unable to convert after Kevin Cawley had been denied by the goalkeeper after the restart.

Gallagher headed over from Gibson's dink before the former Stranraer man had a goal disallowed after he was adjudged to have fouled the defender as he pushed his way through.

Falkirk held on, however, to extend their unbeaten start to the season and leapfrog Rangers at the top of the table ahead of the weekend's fixtures.
