Preview: Halifax Town vs. Gateshead - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Halifax Town and Gateshead, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Gateshead will attempt to claim a third consecutive victory when they travel to The Shay for Tuesday's National League clash with Halifax Town.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be looking for a positive response after falling to a narrow defeat against Aldershot Town at the weekend.

Match preview

Halifax are preparing for a third consecutive home match after kicking off the campaign with home fixtures against Barnet and Aldershot.

The Shaymen got up and running with a 2-1 victory over the Bees, but they were unable to back up that result in Saturday's outing.

Josh Barrett's third-minute effort proved enough to ensure that Aldershot left The Shay with maximum points, leaving Halifax to reflect upon their first defeat of the season.

They may fancy their chances of at least claiming a point on Tuesday after avoiding defeat in each of their last 17 competitive meetings with Gateshead.

In fact, the Shaymen have recorded clean sheets in each of their previous five head-to-head matches, including a 2-0 win in the most recent clash in December.

Gateshead have made an impressive start to the new campaign, claiming consecutive victories to move to the top of the National League table on goal difference.

They kicked off the 2024-25 season with a dominant 5-0 win over Ebbsfleet United, before they recorded a 2-0 win over Woking in a game that was overshadowed by a serious injury to Greg Olley.

He suffered a broken leg following a dangerous challenge from Dion Kelly-Evans, who was subsequently shown a straight red card.

The game was delayed for a significant period as the medical staff treated Olley, before he was taken away by one of the two ambulances that were driven onto the pitch.

Gateshead went on to make full use of the numerical advantage following the lengthy stoppage, with Kenton Richardson and Mark Beck getting on the scoresheet to ensure that Rob Elliot's side will head into Tuesday's clash as one of three teams with a 100% record in the National League.

Team News

Halifax boss Chris Millington could be tempted to make a couple of changes, with Florent Hoti and Owen Bray both in contention after playing around 30 minutes at the weekend.

Adan George is set to retain his place up front, and the striker will be looking to open his account for the new season.

Meanwhile, the visitors are unable to call upon Olley, who has undergone surgery after suffering a broken leg at the weekend.

With Olley sidelined through injury, Ben Worman could be presented with the opportunity to start Tuesday's away clash.

Halifax Town possible starting lineup:
Johnson, Smith, Alimi-Adetoro, Senior; Oluwabori, Evans, Bray, Capello; Cooke, Hoti; George

Gateshead possible starting lineup:
Brooks; Tinkler, Storey, Richardson; Hannant, Booty, Butterfield, Newton; Worman, Whelan; Oseni

We say: Halifax Town 1-1 Gateshead

Gateshead may of have won their opening two matches, but they tend to struggle in meetings against Halifax, and with that in mind, we think that the visitors will have to settle for a point in Tuesday's contest.
