Hertha Berlin have beaten Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0 in the Bundesliga to ensure that their opponents remain in the bottom two.
The game suffered from an edgy start with very little attacking play in the opening 10 minutes, but plenty of mistimed tackles from both sides.
All of a sudden Hertha and Tolga Cigerci came to life, with the midfielder firing narrowly wide a minute before he worked Daniel Davari into the first save of the match,
The game remained tense but not long before the break the visitors might have been ahead. Dominick Kumbela did well to work some space in the box, but his shot from an angle went wide of the near post.
Braunschweig came out well in the second half and Karim Bellarabi had a low effort on the turn, but it was well held by Thomas Kraft in the home goal.
However, on the hour the bottom side's survival task started to look even more difficult as John Anthony Brooks managed to turn the ball goalwards from a corner and get it past Davari for 1-0.
Then, as the away side came forward for the goal that they desperately needed, Sami Allagui turned the ball in low from an angle to secure the points.
