Preview: Luton Town vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Luton Town and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Huddersfield Town square off against Luton Town on Saturday afternoon looking to end a five-match winless streak in the Championship.

The Hatters, who sit a point ahead of the next visitors to Kenilworth Road, are in 13th position after suffering back-to-back defeats.

On the back of four successive defeats, Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan would have been relatively content with their 1-1 draw against Stoke City last weekend.

Despite getting another point on the board, the Terriers are now coming under increasing pressure from the teams below them, effecting hauling the Yorkshire outfit into a relegation scrap.

While Huddersfield are currently in 15th spot, they now sit just six points above the drop zone with many of their nearest rivals possessing at least one game in hand.

Corberan will stress to his players that a positive result against Luton can make all the difference in their bid to re-establish themselves as a mid-table side.

However, a fifth setback in six matches could leave Huddersfield as low as 19th, as well as putting the Spaniard in a fight to keep his job at the John Smith's Stadium.

Luton have recently endured one of their worst periods of the campaign, losing four of their last six matches to drop out of playoff contention.

Like his Huddersfield counterpart, Nathan Jones will have one eye on the battle for survival, but there is still scope for the Hatters to challenge for the top six.

While their home form has been key this season, the recent defeat to Queens Park Rangers was seen as a missed opportunity by the club's supporters.

On the plus side, Luton have played at least one home game fewer than the majority of teams in the Championship, a scenario which will not be lost on Jones as he bids to motivate his inconsistent squad.

Team News

Despite the narrow defeat at Blackburn Rovers last weekend, Jones may considering naming the same Luton XI.

However, new arrivals Tom Ince and Elijah Adebayo are both in contention after their transfers from Stoke City and Walsall.

Duane Holmes is pushing for his first start for the Terriers since his switch from Derby County.

Barring any late fitness issues, that could prove to be the only change to the team which earned a share of the spoils against Stoke.

Luton Town possible starting lineup:
Sluga; Pearson, Lockyer, Bradley, Potts; Mpanzu, Rea, Dewsbury-Hall; Cornick, Collins, Clark

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Schofield; Pipa, Keogh, Sarr, Toffolo; Bacuna, Vallejo, O'Brien; Holmes, Campbell, Mbenza

We say: Luton Town 1-0 Huddersfield Town

Despite both teams occupying mid-table positions, we expect a nervy affair at Kenilworth Road. With Huddersfield needing to find something extra in both areas of the pitch, the Hatters are most likely to prevail in this contest, potentially by the narrowest of scorelines.
