Allo allo! We've got some Friday-night action for you tonight as the Tigers and Wolves of the Championship face off at the KC Stadium.
Plenty to discuss before kickoff in just under an hour's time, but before all that let's see who's playing tonight. The team news is in...
HULL XI: McGregor; Odubajo, Davies, Bruce, Robertson; Elmohamady, Livermore, Meyler, Clucas; Diomande, Hernandez
Subs: Jakupovic, Maguire, Huddlestone, Snodgrass, Maloney, Akpom, Aluko
WOLVES XI: Ikeme; Doherty, Iorfa, Hause, Deslandes; Price, Saville, Edwards; Henry, Helan, Sigurdarson
Subs: Martinez, Hayden, Coady, Le Fondre, Enobakhare, Hunte, Mason
Hull are looking to get their season back on track and build some confidence ahead of what should be a place in the playoffs by the end of the season.
Steve Bruce has made five changes to his starting lineup from the 2-2 draw at Huddersfield last Saturday. Out go Michael Dawson, Harry Maguire, Mo Diame, Tom Huddlestone and
Robert Snodgrass, with Moses Odubajo, Curtis Davies, David Meyler, Sam Clucas and
Adama Diomande coming in.
Dawson and Diame are both missing through injury, while Maguire, Huddlestone and Snodgrass drop to the bench. Bruce played a 3-5-2 formation last week but appears to have reverted back to 4-4-2 tonight, with right-back Moses Odubajo back from a one-game ban. It appeared Hull had lost at the John Smith's Stadium when Maguire scored a 90th-minute own goal, but Diomande spared their blushes in added time so no surprise to see him rewarded with a start.
As for the visitors, Wolves boss
Kenny Jackett has made four changes to the side that drew 0-0 against Blackburn last time out. Sylvain Deslandes,
Dave Edwards, Jeremy Helan and Bjorn Sigurdarson are in for Danny Batth, Conor Coady, Adam Le Fondre and Joe Mason.
Coady, Le Fondre and Mason all drop to the bench, but captain Batth is not present. Wolves recently tweeted that he is missing because of an illness.
Couple of other notes from the team news, with both Diomande and Deslandes making their first starts in the Championship tonight. No pressure! There's also a first inclusion in the Wolves' matchday squad for 19-year-old centre-back Aaron Hayden.
Right then.
Click here to see how it all looks in the Championship ahead of matchday 42 this weekend. Hull sit fifth, with Wolves down in 12th and having very little to play for. The Tigers are big favourites tonight, but it's not gone to plan in recent weeks.
Hull have managed just one win in their last eight league games to drop 10 points behind the automatic-promotion places. They do have a game in hand on everyone around them, but Bruce has admitted that it's too big a gap to claw back.
If there's one positive for Hull, it's that their last six matches all look very winnable on paper. Wolves, in 12th, are the highest-placed team they have to face, but even then you would not expect the three teams - Boro, Burnley and Brighton - above them to mess up that badly.
So it looks like it'll be the playoffs for Bruce's boys and that means that this final stretch is all about getting their early-season confidence back for the end-of-season lottery. Tonight they'll want to put in a good performance at the KC, a stadium where they have only lost once in the league this season. However, four of the last five have been draws.
Just 20 minutes until kickoff now!
H2H: Hull also have a good record when playing Wolves at home. The Tigers have won 10 of the last 14 home league games against the Black Country club (D1 L3), with a current unbeaten run of four games (W3 D1).
Wolves come in to this match 12th and with very little to play for. They haven't been able to match the heights of last year's playoff push and sit 15 points behind the playoffs and 16 above the relegation zone. They're not going up or down, but Jackett's side are only six points above Rotherham all the way down in 21st, so they need a decent finish to avoid sliding down the bottom half.
The visitors are unbeaten in their last six in the league, but four of those have been draws and they were booed off at Molineux after being held to a goalless stalemate by Blackburn last time out. Jackett can be considered quite unlucky having lost star striker Benik Afobe to Bournemouth in January and had several key players sidelined by injury.
PREDICTION: Wolves won their last away game at MK Dons, but before that they had failed to win any of their previous six on the road going back to January. Hard to imagine them causing Hull that many problems tonight and although the home side are struggling themselves, I expect the Tigers to edge it 2-0.
Pitch looks good!
Blimey, here's a stat to sober Hull fans - on this day a year ago, the Tigers were three points clear of Leicester in the Premier League. Anyone know how the Foxes are getting on these days?
Both teams' primary colour is orange/gold/amber/whatever, so Wolves are in their aqua blue away kit tonight and they get us underway.
There is another Championship match tonight and Hull fans will want to know how Brighton, the team directly above them in the table, get on against Fulham. I'll keep you posted with any goal updates.
Hull look really up for this tonight. They've been on the front foot from the word go and almost had a chance moments ago when Robertson cut the ball back but Wolves were able to clear.
GOAL! HULL 1-0 WOLVES (ADAMA DIOMANDE)
What a howler! A long ball forward is flicked on by Elmohamady and Hause airkicks when trying to clear. Still, the ball is bouncing through to Ikeme and he should easily mop up but somehow spills the ball and puts it on a plate for Diomande to roll into an empty net on his first league start. Good grief.
I know they've got very little to play for, but there's no excuse for Wolves to concede goals like that. Ikeme has been in good form recently as well, so really surprising to see him make such an amateurish mistake like that.
CLOSE! Wolves win their first corner of the contest as Football League debutant Deslandes has his cross blocked by Odubajo. Henry swings over the set piece and captain Edwards is up to flick over the bar onto the roof of the net.
Good luck Wolves!
Excellent work from Elmohamady as he blocks not one, but two attempted Wolves clearances. The loose ball drops Clucas's way but he can only shoot a couple of yards wide after working the ball onto his weaker right foot.
Hull's top scorer Hernandez goes through on goal, but the offside flag is up. Replays show that it was very, very close. Could have stayed down there.
CHANCE! Price misses a sitter. Wolves break down the left and Helan picks out the midfielder with a fine cross but the ball pings off his forehead and goes over. Not controlled at all. Hull aren't happy and they have a right to be as moments earlier Saville went in studs-up on Odubajo and somehow the referee did not see it.
GOAL! HULL 1-1 WOLVES (DAVE EDWARDS)
All square! Too easy for the visitors down the left once again as Helan has acres to control the ball and pick out a cross. Fair play to him, his delivery is inch-perfect for Edwards in the middle to nod home the simplest of headers. Poor marking, but a well-executed goal from Wolves' point of view.
Ooooff! Poor Odubajo. He's just been on the end of another really dangerous tackle from a Wolves player, this time Henry. Adcock gives a free kick this time, but no card. Odubajo points out that's the second bad tackle he's received and he certainly has a right to. Lucky not to be injured.
UPDATE: Bad news for Hull as Brighton take the lead against Fulham thanks to a Tomer Hemed penalty. So
as it stands, the Seagulls are moving up to second ahead of Burnley's match at Birmingham tomorrow.
So after what was a fantastic start by Hull, Wolves have grown and grown into this match and they are deservedly level.
UPDATE: Hemed with another for Brighton, so it does not look like the Seagulls will be dropping points tonight. Looks like it'll be the playoffs for Hull.
Dodgy goalkeeping from Ikeme again as he punches the ball up, rather than away. Edwards is on hand to head it out for another corner.
PENALTY SHOUT! Bad decision here from referee
James Adcock. Elmohamady gets around Deslandes and gets his toe to the ball before being brought down by the debutant. The referee points for a corner and it's a pretty bad one to get wrong given that the linesman is on that side as well.
Wolves streak forward with the dangerous Helan down the left and he produces a cutback that's just dying to be slammed home, but both blue shirts up with him have ran too far. Hull do look vulnerable when Wolves break.
Half time fast approaching now and still we're level after what has been a very watchable first half, but not one filled with quality.
Just the one minute of added time at the end of the opening period.
HALF-TIME: HULL 1-1 WOLVES
Bit like a microcosm of Hull's season that. Good start but tailed away and you would have to say that Wolves deserve to be level at the break. Back soon for the second half!
Okey dokey. Teams back out for the second half, no changes from either manager.
KICKOFF! Hull get us back underway at the KC.
Saville was extremely lucky not to be booked in the first half for a nasty tackle in the build-up to Wolves' equaliser and he has just made another late tackle on Elmohamady. Adcock again lets it go.
Still just the one shot on target from both teams. Hause just won a header from a Wolves corner but his effort didn't reach the goal as Clucas stuck out a leg and got rid. Tepid, to say the least, this match.
Could be bucking the trend tonight!
OH! No atmosphere here at the moment, but Diomande almost causes a stir with a spectacular overhead kick that flies over the top.
UPDATE: 3-0 to Brighton in tonight's other match, so if things stay like this then it's almost guaranteed that Hull will not be going up automatically.
It's pretty grim out there. The rain is teeming down and the match isn't doing much more to liven the supporters up. Surely both managers must be thinking about a change or two to freshen things up.
Livermore tries his luck from about 25 yards for Hull, but that's sliced high and wide into the stand. Groans all around. Come on boys, make it an interesting finish!
Hopeful shot at the other end from Sigurdarson that also flies over the top. STILL, just those two shots on target tonight.
HULL SUB: It's Odubajo who comes off for Snodgrass. That will see Elmohamady drop to right-back.
Just 20 minutes to go now and neither side has shown any real intent so far in the second half. You would expect Hull to start piling the pressure on, but this performance is very indicative of the way that they have been struggling recently.
HULL SUBS: Clucas and Diomande off, Akpom and Aluko on. The latter pair should give the Hull attack some energy.
SAVE! First time either goalkeeper has been worked as Hernandez takes aim from the edge of the box and Ikeme gets down low to keep the Uruguayan out. May have gone wide, but the Wolves keeper could take no chances.
WOLVES SUB: First change by Jackett and it's Coady on for Deslandes. The latter has had an OK league debut, but should have been penalised for a foul in the box in the first half.
SAVE! More action! Probably the best move of the match as Wolves work the ball down the right to Doherty. He then picks out Sigurdarson on the edge of the box. The forward takes a great first touch but shoots too central and McGregor tips it over.
UPDATE: Tomer Hemed has a hat-trick for Brighton, who now lead 4-0 against Fulham. There's a team who look hungry to go up automatically, the same can't be said of Hull.
The odd thing is Hull's fans should be willing their team on to get the three points, but it's just so flat at the KC.
SHOT! Hernandez has been a little greedy at times, but not here as he feeds Aluko and his shot is too close to Ikeme. You have to say the Wolves keeper did well to hold it in what are slippy conditions.
WOLVES SUB: Saville, who somehow wasn't booked tonight, comes off for Enobakhare. Ninety minutes almost up now.
Three minutes more. Will we get a winner? The match doesn't really deserve one. Brighton now five up, by the way.
Defeat for Hull would be catastrophic and they almost gift Wolves a chance to win it. Davies gives the ball away but Edwards can't pick out Sigurdarson in the middle.
Free kick Hull in a great position...
GOAL! HULL 2-1 WOLVES (ROBERT SNODGRASS)
Move over Dimitri Payet, this might just be the best-placed free kick of the season. Snodgrass curls it up and over the wall. It looks high and wide, but it dips and curls to crash in off the underside of the bar. Right in the top corner. BEAUTIFUL!
FULL-TIME: HULL 2-1 WOLVES
Blimey! I had it all ready to type about a boring game that neither side deserved to win, but Snodgrass's stunning free kick has won it for Hull, who just about keep their dreams of going up automatically alive.
For Wolves, they've already been thinking next season fro a little while now but it's still disappointing to lose like that. Thanks a lot for joining SM tonight. Come back tomorrow for plenty more live football. See ya!
