Mick McCarthy hails "great" Luke Chambers

Ipswich Town defender Luke Chambers receives praise from his manager Mick McCarthy for his displays at full-back.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has praised the recent performances of defender Luke Chambers.

Although a natural centre-back, the 28-year-old has been used in the right-back position of late ahead of Elliott Hewitt and Freddie Veseli.

Despite the fact that he has been quoted as saying that he would feel more comfortable in the centre of a four-man rearguard, McCarthy has hailed the former Nottingham Forest player for the character and ability that he has shown.

"I said to both Elliott and Freddie that those two should have been battling it out for the right-back slot this season, but unfortunately for them Chambo has been better," McCarthy told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"I think it's been a real testimony to him and his character that he's gone and played there when he was playing so well at centre-back. As soon as I changed it he will have been thinking 'does that put my position under threat?' Well he's under no threat Chambo because he's been great. He's got the captain's armband, is a really good pro and a really good guy. I like him."

Chambers joined the Suffolk-based outfit from Forest last year.
