Mick McCarthy refuses to rule out the possibility of one day returning to international management.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that he would one day like to make a return to international coaching.

The 53-year-old spent six years in charge of the Republic of Ireland up until 2002. During his time at the helm, McCarthy guided the Greens to the second round of the World Cup, where they were defeated by Spain on penalties.

Despite admitting that he is happy in his new role with Ipswich, McCarthy confessed that the temptation of international football would probably prove to be too big to turn down in the future.

"I love the club management, the involvement with players and everything that goes with it but yes I do see myself going back if I get the opportunity," he told Yahoo.

"That is not necessarily to the Republic of Ireland [because] other international jobs would appeal to me. I think it is a great challenge, great working at that level and I really enjoyed it when I did, but for now I love being at Ipswich."

McCarthy won 29 of his 68 matches in charge of Ireland, losing 20.
