Mick McCarthy won't stand in Terry Connor's way

Mick McCarthy tells Terry Connor that he won't scupper any chances that he has to become a manager again.

Mick McCarthy has revealed that he won't stop his assistant Terry Connor from making a return to management in the future.

The pair were reunited earlier this season when McCarthy was appointed the new manager of Championship side Ipswich Town.

It is the first time that the duo have worked together since assistant Connor took over from McCarthy as Wolverhampton Wanderers boss back in February of this year.

Discussing his colleague and friend's future, McCarthy has admitted that he may well lose his services over the coming years.

"I know he enjoyed his stint as the manager, making the decisions and planning everything but he was involved in all of that anyway when I was the manager," McCarthy told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"We have a really good working relationship there is no difficulty at all. I had spoken to him and asked if he fancied a manager's job himself and I guess if the opportunity arises at some stage he would – and he should – because I think he would be very good."

Connor left his role as Wolves manager at the end of last season.
