Veteran striker Jason Scotland declines his right to a pay rise at Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell has revealed that striker Jason Scotland has waived his right to a pay rise at the club.

Under the terms of his current contract, the 33-year-old would be entitled to a hike in wages if he makes two more appearances this season.

However, the striker, whose deal will expire in the summer, has declined the rise in the hope that it will secure a longer stay at Portman Road.

"He did have a clause that could trigger a reasonably big wage increase," said Jewell. "I think he deserves a lot of credit for saying he's waiving it.

"If I thought Jason's inclusion in the squad was vital in a promotion or relegation game I would have played him. But this clears it up for everybody.

"I think Jason has been terrific for us as a squad member this year and I want him here next year."

Scotland has found the net on six occasions this season.
