Alessandro Matri guides Juventus past Atalanta

Alessandro Matri's early goal helps Juventus to secure a narrow win against Atalanta.

A clever early finish from Alessandro Matri has helped Juventus continue their Serie A celebrations at Atalanta this evening with a 1-0 win.

With a second successive Scudetto secured last weekend Juve coach Antonio Conte decided to ring the changes tonight, opting to bring Matri and Fabio Quagliarella into his starting XI.

After 18 minutes Matri made an impact, meeting a perfectly weighted pass from Andrea Pirlo before guiding home with an assured central finish.

Atalanta responded brightly and had chances to level through German Denis and Giacomo Bonaventura, but both players were wasteful from close range.

Denis then saw a powerful strike bounce back off the post as the hosts were frustrated in their search for an equaliser.

Bonaventura kept up the pressure on Juve after the break, forcing a strong save from Marco Storari with an angled drive from distance.

The home side controlled the closing stages but were unable to force a deserved equaliser as Juve extended their run of successive Serie A wins to nine.
