Steve Evans: 'Chris Wood has to get sharper'

Leeds United boss Steve Evans says that Chris Wood has to work on his sharpness following time away on international duty.

Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has stated that striker Chris Wood must work on his sharpness following international duty.

The New Zealand frontman, who has netted six times for Leeds since joining from Leicester City in the summer, recently captained his country in a friendly against Oman.

Evans has said that while he will never deny players the chance to play international football, he would rather be working with them during breaks in the season.

"I think he's done okay. He has got to get himself a little bit sharper, but again we are working on these things," Evans told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"When you come in, you can't always do these things very quickly. When the international break came, he was off to the Gulf for eight or nine days with his country.

"As much as I respect and love the fact that we have international players, sometimes there's little periods of time where you would love them to be here."

Leeds travel to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
