Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy: 'We deserved victory over Swansea City'

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy says that his team are deserving winners after his goal helped earn a 2-1 victory over Swansea City.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has claimed that he and his teammates thoroughly deserved their 2-1 triumph over Swansea City at the King Power Stadium.

Claudio Ranieri's men began the defence of their Premier League title with a defeat and a draw, but they have finally got off the mark in the top flight.

Vardy struck just after the half-hour mark in a rain-drenched encounter, while Wes Morgan doubled the Foxes' lead five minutes after the half-time break.

Riyad Mahrez squandered the chance to put three goals on the board for Leicester as his penalty was saved by Lukasz Fabianski, and it was a nervy final 10 minutes after Leroy Fer pulled a goal back for the Swans.

"We were disappointed with the first game of the season but got a decent draw last week and played well and we just wanted to keep improving," BBC Sport quotes Vardy as saying. "To go two goals up and then hang on at the end, we got what we deserved.

"The ball was struggling to move in the puddles but that's English weather for you. We're just delighted to get the three points. I managed to get a ball over the top from Drinky (Danny Drinkwater) as usual and managed to put it away."

After the international break, Leicester will face Liverpool at Anfield on September 10.
