Leicester City 1-0 Blackpool

Leicester City edge Blackpool 1-0 through a Ben Marshall penalty.

Leicester City enjoyed a 1-0 home victory over Championship leaders Blackpool in a keenly-contested encounter.

The only goal of the came from the penalty spot, with Ben Marshall converting after Tiago Gomes fouled Jamie Vardy in the area.

Blackpool had chances to get on the scoresheet in both halves, most notably when Barry Ferguson hit the post when he connected with a Gary Taylor-Fletcher cross.

City were in control of possession for long spells but could not add to their advantage.

Seasiders boss Ian Holloway introduced Matt Phillips in the second half to link up with the dangerous Thomas Ince, but his team could not get back on level terms.

Blackpool remain top of the Championship at this early stage despite the defeat, with a notable scalp for Leicester taking them up to 11th place.
