Cristiano Ronaldo relishing Anfield return

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo looks forward to visiting Liverpool in the Champions League.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he is relishing a Champions League meeting with Liverpool.

The European champions have been drawn alongside the Reds in Group B with FC Basel and Ludogorets making up the full lineup, and the Portuguese forward is looking forward to visiting Anfield once more, having played there several times during his Manchester United career.

He told reporters in Monte Carlo, where the draw was held: "If I was going back to Old Trafford, the reception from the fans would be amazing for me. Going to Liverpool will be very different – wow!

"Of course I know that it's a very difficult place to go, although I won there a few times with United. They came very close last year to winning the Premier League so we know it's going to be a very tough game at Anfield.

"For me, knowing it's going to be the first time, I'm looking forward to it. I know Anfield. But we are Real Madrid."

Liverpool and Real Madrid have won the European Cup a combined 15 times.
