Marco Streller: 'Liverpool win was a big step'

Basel striker Marco Streller believes that their 1-0 win over Liverpool could be crucial in their hopes of finishing second in Group B of the Champions League.

Marco Streller believes that Basel struck an important blow in the race for Group B's second place after they beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Streller netted the second-half winner to go level on points with the Reds, and the Swiss thinks that the victory was crucial to their hopes of finishing above the Merseyside outfit.

"Today was the day to deliver and we said it before the Champions League started, normally Real Madrid are going to play for the first position," Streller told Sky Sports News.

"Then it's between us and Liverpool and it was a big step for us today. I don't know how we always beat the English teams, but I like to play against the English teams."

Basel's next two games in the competition are against Ludogorets Razgrad.
