Roy Hodgson will prefer Phil Jagielka to Jordan Henderson as an alternative to Gareth Barry if the Man City midfielder is ruled out of Euro 2012, according to reports.

Phil Jagielka is apparently in line to replace Gareth Barry in England's Euro 2012 squad if the Manchester City midfielder is ruled out with injury.

Barry faces a scan later today after being forced off just 20 minutes following his introduction during the Three Lions' 1-0 win over Norway in Roy Hodgson's first game in charge on Saturday.

It was originally thought that Barry suffered a groin strain, but it has now been revealed that it is in fact a stomach muscle issue.

Jordan Henderson, who replaced the 31-year-old in Oslo, is on Hodgson's standby list for the tournament and would represent the natural alternative.

However, Everton defender Jagielka will reportedly get the nod ahead of the Liverpool midfielder if Barry is withdrawn from the 23-man party, according to Sky Sports News.

Both Jagielka and Manchester United youngster Phil Jones have experience operating in Barry's accustomed defensive midfield role.
