Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of this evening's Audi Cup final against Atletico Madrid following his injury scare during Tuesday's win over Bayern Munich.
The 27-year-old lasted just 20 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute at the Allianz Arena, being forced off in the closing stages of the match having picked up an injury while scoring the final goal in his side's 3-0 victory over the German champions.
Sturridge has since played down fears that the injury could be another serious setback, but he will be left out of tonight's match as a precaution.
"Sturridge will be treated at the club's training base in Rottach-Egern today and the issue will continue to be monitored, although there are currently no plans for a scan to take place in Germany," read a statement on Liverpool's official website.
Sturridge, who has featured in all six of Liverpool's pre-season friendlies so far this summer, has not yet been ruled out of the final warm-up game against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Saturday.
