Sunday's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup: Georginio Wijnaldum, Virgil van Dijk, Dayot Upamecano

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Liverpool on Sunday, January 24.

The January transfer window is now open, with Liverpool continuing to be linked with a host of big names.

Jurgen Klopp has been forced to contend with a crippling injury crisis during the first half of the season, leading to speculation that the Premier League champions could move for a new defender this month.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Anfield.

Sunday morning's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup:

Barcelona 'hoping to sign Sergio Aguero, David Alaba on free transfers'

Barcelona are reportedly determined to bring Sergio Aguero and David Alaba to Camp Nou on free transfers.

Aguero's contract with Manchester City is due to expire at the end of June, and it appears increasingly likely that the Argentine, who has struggled with injuries this season, could be allowed to move on.

Alaba, meanwhile, is widely expected to leave Bayern Munich on a free transfer, having failed to come to an agreement with the German champions over a new contract.

Real Madrid are thought to be in pole position to sign Alaba, but according to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are hopeful of landing the Austria international on a free transfer.

The report claims that Aguero is viewed as the ideal replacement for Luis Suarez, who joined Atletico Madrid last summer, and the Argentine's arrival could help the Catalan giants convince Lionel Messi to sign a new deal.

Ronald Koeman's side are also said to be keen to land Man City's Eric Garcia, Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum and Lyon's Memphis Depay, with all three players out of contract with their respective clubs this summer.

Liverpool 'will prioritise Virgil van Dijk deal over Mohamed Salah'

Liverpool are reportedly determined to sign Virgil van Dijk to a new long-term contract before addressing the future of Mohamed Salah.

Both Van Dijk and Salah have deals with the Premier League champions until the summer of 2023, but there remains speculation surrounding the latter, who recently refused to rule out a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

According to Eurosport, despite the uncertainty surrounding the former Chelsea youngster, Liverpool will prioritise a new contract for Van Dijk over the Egyptian.

Van Dijk, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation as he battles back from a serious knee injury, is still on the same deal that he penned upon his arrival from Southampton in January 2018.

The report claims that there has been 'no concrete interest' from other clubs in Salah, meaning that Jurgen Klopp's side are prepared to take their time when it comes to his future.

Liverpool's 1-0 home defeat to Burnley on Thursday night has left them in fourth spot in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Manchester United.
