The Hillsborough committee finds that up to 41 of the 96 people that died during the disaster had the potential to be saved.

The Hillsborough committee have revealed that 41 people had the potential to be saved during the disaster 23 years ago.

A total of 96 Liverpool supporters lost their lives on April 15, 1989 in a crush during an FA Cup semi-final between the Reds and Nottingham Forest.

However, a member of the Hillsborough Independent Panel Dr Bill Kirku told a press conference that 41 of those 96 who died in the tragedy had "evidence that they had potential to survive after the period of 3.15pm" had the response of the emergency services been up to the expected levels.

The committee also found that a large number of police statements from the time were doctored to attempt to put the blame for the disaster on Liverpool fans.
