Jamie Carragher: 'Daniel Sturridge should get more praise'

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Daniel Sturridge should get more praise than he does for his finishing.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has claimed that Daniel Sturridge does not get the credit that he deserves for his finishing.

The 24-year-old scored 21 goals in the Premier League last season as the Reds narrowly missed out on their first title in 24 years.

Despite being recognised for his form by being called up to the England squad for the World Cup, Carragher believes that Sturridge should get more praise for his style of play.

"He's a great finisher - people don't talk about that enough," he told LFCTV. "His finishing ability is second to none. He's got pace, he's got strength - he's the modern striker. He can play wide, he can play off the front and he can play up top.

"The modern striker can't just be someone who stays up front, looking to score a goal and that's all he does. The modern player has got to move about and bring a lot more to his game.

"I think Daniel Sturridge is the perfect type. I think, this season, Sturridge has been the best attacking player England have got."

Sturridge and his England teammates play the first of three warm-up matches for the World Cup against Peru at Wembley Stadium on May 30.
