City arrive safely at Anfield after April bus attack

Blues took an alternate route to the stadium after their coach was pelted with missiles before last season’s Champions League match.

Manchester City’s arrival at Anfield passed without incident ahead of their top-of-the-table Premier League fixture against Liverpool.

When the two sides met back in April in a Champions League quarter-final first leg the visitors’ coach sustained thousands of pounds worth of damage after bottles, flares and other objects were thrown.

The vehicle was so badly damaged City had to order a replacement to take the squad home.

However, there were no such scenes this time around as Liverpool fans traditionally only line the streets in their thousands for big European matches.

Extra police were drafted in but were not required as there were only a few hundred present to watch both teams’ coaches arrive.

Liverpool came in first to some cheers and were shortly followed by City, whose coach was specially equipped with 15 ultra HD cameras in order to capture any incidents of potential misbehaviour after no arrests were made in relation to April’s incident.

The worst thing to be thrown at the bus was the odd foul-mouthed insult.
