Former Premier League footballer Stan Collymore has urged Liverpool star Raheem Sterling to reconsider his friendships after video footage appearing to show the youngster inhaling 'laughing gas' was published by the press.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he will have words with the England international regarding The Sun's footage of the 20-year-old taking 'legal high' nitrous oxide through a balloon.

The newspaper in question is not favoured among most Liverpool fans due to the shocking allegations made by them about the conduct of supporters during the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.

Following the publication of the footage, Collymore advised Sterling to "get rid" of the friends who he believes sold the content to the newspaper.

Collymore wrote on Twitter: "Hey @sterling31, your little scumbag mates are grassing you up to the S**. May want to look seriously at your friendships kid.

"My concern is a kid having hangers on willing to se him out for 500 quid. Complete wankers. Get rid @sterling31."

Sterling's future at Liverpool remains uncertain as contract talks were put on hold after the youngster rejected a new deal worth £100,000 a week.
