Kenny Dalglish says that Steven Gerrard is progressing well but will not confirm if the Liverpool captain will play against Blackburn on Boxing Day.

Kenny Dalglish has again refused to set a date on Steven Gerrard's return but it is understood that the Liverpool captain could feature for the Reds against Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day.

The 31-year-old has been sidelined for over a month with an ankle infection but reports have suggested that the England international is edging closer to a comeback.

"He is training, so as we've said before we'll always monitor his progress and make sure we've done the right things," said Dalglish.

"Everything he's done, he's done very well. He's been training, but whether that means he's ready or not, we'll have to wait and see."

Reds supporters will be eagerly anticipating the return of their skipper as Luis Suarez faces an eight-match ban after being found guilty of abusing Patrice Evra during Liverpool's clash with Manchester United at Anfield in October.
