Liverpool defender Jose Enrique reveals that he will not change his citizenship to play for England.

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has ruled out a possible change of citizenship to play for England.

The Spanish-born full-back, who has not represented Spain at full international level, has revealed that some of his teammates at Anfield have tried to persuade him to make the switch.

However, the 25-year-old has said that he will either play for Spain or nobody.

"Some teammates have told me to apply for British citizenship but I'm not thinking about doing that because I'm Spanish and I'll either play for Spain or nobody," he said.

"I want to play for Spain. Playing for a club like Liverpool makes you think you'll have more chance of representing your country but it is [Spain boss] Vicente del Bosque who decides and I just have to focus on playing well for my club."

Enrique moved to Anfield from Newcastle United over the summer.
