Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says that Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty in their Premier League fixture with West Bromwich Albion.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has claimed that Liverpool were wrongly denied a penalty in Saturday's Premier League fixture at West Bromwich Albion.

Already holding a 1-0 advantage, Liverpool felt that they should have been awarded a spot kick when Danny Ings went down under a challenge from Craig Dawson, but referee Stuart Attwell waved away the forward's appeals.

However, Gallagher has said that Attwell had focused too much of his attention on the ball instead of being aware of Ings's run into the area.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I thought it was a penalty. I think Stuart has looked at where the ball is coming in and has lost focus on where both players are.

"He's looked up, seen them go over, and thinks it's just a coming together. Jake Livermore possibly blocks his view, but I think he's focusing too much on the ball."

The match at The Hawthorns ended in a 2-2 draw, with West Brom netting two late goals to salvage a point.
