Steven Gerrard has revealed that he held talks with MK Dons over the vacant manager's job but turned down the position as it came "a bit too soon" for him.
The Liverpool legend was linked with the League One job last week after calling time on his 18-month stint in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles Galaxy.
Gerrard is not yet ready to commit to anything, however, having also been linked with a return to Liverpool in a coaching capacity in recent days, and instead intends to take time to mull over his latest career move.
"I spoke to MK Dons. I had a chat with the chairman, it's a very exciting job for somebody else but it's a bit soon for me," he told BT Sport. "But it's true, I did speak to them. I'm just taking a bit of time to consider what's next, exciting times moving forward."
Prior to joining LA Galaxy last year, Gerrard spent 17 years at Anfield where he won eight major trophies and became the club's third-most capped player of all time.
