Steven Gerrard: 'Luis Suarez is the best'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hails teammate Luis Suarez as the best player in England at the moment.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has expressed his belief that striker Luis Suarez is the best player in England at the moment.

Suarez ended a mini-goal drought during Liverpool's 3-0 win over Southampton yesterday, scoring the opener before providing an assist for Raheem Sterling and winning the penalty that Gerrard converted.

The 33-year-old acknowledged that the Uruguayan was not quite on a par with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, but believes that he is not far behind that duo.

"I've run out of words to describe him. We're blessed in this country to have some really top forwards, top, top attacking players," Gerrard is quoted as saying by PA.

"But for me, without being biased, he's the best. I've said it many times, I look at Messi and Ronaldo and, yeah, they're world-class players. But outside of that, you've got [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and Luis Suarez who are pushing those two really close.

"Performances like this, where he hasn't scored for four or five games, but he's getting assists, he's causing so much problems. He's relentless. He's a winner, he's a killer and we're lucky to have him."

Luis Suarez is the Premier League's top scorer with 24 goals this season while he has also provided more assists than any other player in the league.
