Joe Gomez: 'My move to Liverpool is yet to sink in'

Joe Gomez admits that his move to Liverpool from Charlton Athletic is yet to sink in.

Joe Gomez has admitted that the magnitude of his move to Liverpool from Charlton Athletic is yet to sink in.

The 18-year-old, who became one of six new signings last month, has touched down in Thailand with his teammates for the Reds' pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia.

"I'm excited and looking forward to the challenge," Gomez told the club's official website. "It's obviously a new experience for me, this level is a lot different to what I was playing at last season, but I'm just enjoying it and hoping to do well.

"I don't think it has quite settled in yet. When we were coming on and seeing the plane, it was a 'wow' moment. The most important thing is that I try to do well on the pitch.

"I've heard a lot about how big the club is, and obviously I know, but coming out on a tour like this will show me first-hand how big it is. It's quite easy for me to take it in but not let it affect me."

Meanwhile, Gomez's teammate Raheem Sterling appears to be on the verge of leaving Liverpool after the club accepted a £49m fee from Manchester City for the England international.
