Jordan Henderson: 'I stay behind at Liverpool for extra training'

Jordan Henderson reveals that he puts in extra training sessions in order to improve on his shooting.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has revealed that he regularly stays behind at Melwood after training to practise his shooting.

The England Under-21 captain, who moved to Merseyside from Sunderland in 2011, believes that putting in the extra work will eventually ensure a regular starting spot under manager Brendan Rodgers.

"A lot of players do extra training," Henderson told the club's official magazine. "I tend to work on my finishing. I think it's important as a midfielder to contribute goals.

"The goalkeepers stay behind with Mike Marsh along with a few of us. I think I need to improve in a lot of areas. Scoring goals is one of them.

"It's such an important part of football. If a manager knows he can rely on a midfielder to score a few, it means he's likely to play a lot."

Henderson has featured 37 times for the Reds so far this season, scoring four goals.
