Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has backed Mohamed Salah to become as important to Liverpool as Philippe Coutinho.

Salah has made a quick start to life at Anfield since his summer move from Roma, scoring six goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Egypt international was unable to break the deadlock during Saturday's 0-0 draw against Manchester United, but Henry is confident that he will prove to be an integral player for the Reds this season.

"I don't think it's about proving Mourinho anything, but proving the Liverpool fans that you are this guy, that you can be a player like Coutinho," Henry told Sky Sports News.

"For me, [Salah] is special, he has something special. He will be a special player for Liverpool. I like the fact that he is direct — we don't have a lot of players like that in the game anymore.

"And yes, people will say sometimes that he needs four opportunities to score a goal. When he is able to finish all the opportunities he has then he will be more than lethal for this club."

Liverpool currently sit eighth in the Premier League table, two points adrift of the top four.
