Ian Ayre "excited" by proposed Anfield redevelopment

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre hails the "exciting" plans to boost the club's Anfield capacity to 55,000.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has hailed the "exciting" plans to redevelop the club's iconic Anfield stadium.

The Reds are reportedly close to agreeing plans that would see a 10,000-seat expansion of their home, and Ayre said that the news was an important development for the club.

Ayre is quoted as saying to reporters: "The publication of the draft SRF (Anfield Spatial Regeneration Framework) document is another important step in the regeneration project as we continue the exciting journey to transform the Anfield area.

"Any final decision regarding a future stadium expansion continues to be based on certainty - a certainty that we can obtain the necessary land around the stadium to facilitate the expansion; certainty that there is demand for any future expansion; certainty that we have home owners' support; and certainty we can navigate the complex planning landscape."

The proposed expansion will see the Main Stand eventually become larger than the Kop, while the Anfield Road end will also undergo renovation.
