Adam Lallana delighted with Brendan Rodgers stay

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana admits that he was elated to see manager Brendan Rodgers keep his job, despite the club's underwhelming 2014-15 season.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has revealed his delight that manager Brendan Rodgers will still be with the club next season.

The 42-year-old was called for a meeting with the Reds chairman Tom Werner and Mike Gordon of the Fenway Sports Group to discuss his future at Anfield, following his side's underwhelming performance in the 2014-15 season.

Rodgers managed to keep his position, although his assistant Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh were fired by the club, and Lallana believes that keeping the Northern Irishman at the club was a simple choice for the hierarchy to make.

Lallana told reporters: "Of course I am delighted he's still here. In my eyes, there wasn't really any doubt in him being here for next season. It's been an up and down season. We reached two semi-finals and we were disappointed that we couldn't get to the final.

"At one point we were closing in on the top four but missed out there. It's been an up and down season but we've got a lot of new players and, off the back of such a promising year last year, when they nearly won the league, the expectation was always going to be really high.

"He's a great coach. He's very good tactically and I am always going to learn - players are always going to get better when he is coaching."

Lallana is expected to be in action in England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia later today.
