Steven Gerrard 'surprised' by Liverpool's backroom staff shake-up

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard wants to know why two members of the club's backroom staff were recently dismissed.

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he was surprised by the dismissal of assistant manager Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh last week.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder said that he is interested to hear Reds boss Brendan Rodgers's explanation for axing the backroom duo.

"I was very surprised. For me the most important thing is who Liverpool sign to strengthen the team and squad," Gerrard said at the launch of BT Sport Europe.

"But I'll be very interested to see who he puts in alongside him and also to hear Brendan speak to see why he has decided to make those decisions."

Rodgers's own future at Anfield was cast into doubt after the club failed to secure a place in next season's Champions League, but the Northern Irishman is on course to begin the new campaign at the helm.
