Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva is excited by the prospect of a Carling Cup final, despite missing it through a knee injury.

Lucas Leiva has revealed that he is desperate to collect a Carling Cup winners medal with Liverpool, despite not being able to feature at Wembley.

The 25-year-old has not played since November, when he picked up a cruciate knee ligament injury in the Reds' 2-0 win at Chelsea in Round Five.

That was the the Brazilian's third appearance in this season's tournament, meaning he will receive a winners medal should his teammates overcome Cardiff City on February 26.

He told Sky Sports News: "I think it would be a reward for the hard work everybody has done and for taking the competition really seriously.

"It would be especially important for me because I got injured in the Carling Cup. Hopefully in February I can be at Wembley getting a medal and I would be really happy if that happens."

Lucas, who signed in 2007, has made 182 appearances for the Anfield club.
