James Milner: 'Liverpool lack consistency'

Liverpool midfielder James Milner admits that his side lack consistency as they continue to adapt to Jurgen Klopp's style of play.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has admitted that his side have not been consistent enough this season.

Jurgen Klopp's time in charge of the club so far has been punctuated by occasional scintillating performances, but the Reds still sit ninth in the Premier League table and nine points off the Champions League places.

Another bright performance this afternoon only yielded a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, and Milner acknowledged that his side need to be more ruthless.

"Both teams like to play a high-tempo passing game and we expected that. We probably created enough chances to win the game. We are disappointed not to win it," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"Their goal came out of nothing. We have to be ruthless at times and take the chances. When you are pressing so quickly, you have to calm down when you win the ball back.

"We are getting the style the manager wants us to play but we have not got the consistency. We should be doing it nine to 10 times out of 10. We want to finish the season strongly and take the momentum into next year."

Liverpool are back in action again on Thursday as they face Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.
