Jan Molby: 'Liverpool missed out on marquee signing'

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby insists that the club missed out on making a "marquee signing" during the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby has revealed that he is disappointed that the club did not make a "marquee signing" before the end of the transfer window.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers added eight players to his squad during the summer, including spending £15m on Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, but Molby has insisted that doesn't represent a big transfer for the club.

The Dane told the Liverpool Echo: "Sakho might have cost £15m, but he isn't the marquee signing that we've chased all summer.

"With all due respect, there weren't any queues outside the club shop on Tuesday morning to buy shirts with his name on the back. A marquee signing is someone who gets you out of your seat like Mesut Ozil, Willian or Henrik Mkhitaryan."

The 50-year-old made 218 league appearances for Liverpool between 1984 and 1996.
