Gus Poyet: 'Premier League will miss Steven Gerrard'

Gus Poyet says that Sunderland fans should savour Steven Gerrard's presence in Liverpool's trip to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has paid tribute to Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard and has claimed that the Premier League will miss him.

The Reds captain will call time on his illustrious spell at Anfield in the summer to join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Gerrard faces the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light this afternoon in what could prove to be his last appearance in the North-East, and Poyet says that the 34-year-old's presence will be one to savour.

"If I was a football fan, I would want to be at the stadium because I would not want to miss the chance to watch Steven Gerrard live for maybe the last time in the north east," he told Sky Sports News.

"He is worth buying a ticket for because there are not many like him and he is going to be missed. He is different and it is great to get the opportunity to watch him live."

Gerrard has netted nine times in 27 outings for the Merseysiders this season.
