Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers optimistic over top-four finish

Brendan Rodgers believes that Liverpool have moved into an ideal position to qualify for the Champions League following their 2-0 win over Burnley.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that his side have moved themselves into the ideal position to achieve for a top-four finish in the Premier League following their 2-0 win over Burnley.

The Reds have won six of their last seven league games and are now two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United as a result.

Rodgers, who guided Liverpool to a second-placed finish last season, insists that he is not getting carried away about Champions League qualification yet.

"We've put ourselves in a very good position, but there's still a lot of work to go. Over the last three months the games have been coming thick and fast, but the players have stood up to that," he told ESPN.

"They have achieved the objectives that we wanted to. Now we arrive with 10 league games to go and it's a period of the season that we're going to really look forward to.

"We are playing at a good level, but we will not get carried away with it. I felt we were very, very good in this game. Burnley are a team that keep going to the end and they have gone to some of the big teams and looked fantastic, but we pressed them until the end."
