Brendan Rodgers singles out Raheem Sterling for praise

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praises Raheem Sterling for his performances throughout the International Cup.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has taken plenty of positives from his side's tour of the United States - but singled out Raheem Sterling for special praise.

The teenager turned in some eye-catching performances throughout the trip, as the Reds were eventually beaten 3-1 by Manchester United in the final of the International Champions Cup on Monday.

Speaking to the club's official website, the Northern Irishman said: "I thought he was outstanding and was a real threat.

"Raheem is tactically aware for such a young player and is so exciting to watch. When he runs at defenders he creates many opportunities.

"At 19 years of age he is a real talent and is getting better all the time. We have worked very hard and we will leave here with plenty of positives and look forward to the new season."

Sterling scored nine goals last season as the Reds finished second to Manchester City in the Premier League.
