Raheem Sterling explains family influence

Raheem Sterling explains the impact that his family have had on his career following his move to Liverpool as a 15-year-old.

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has explained how his family have supported him throughout his fledgling career so far.

The 19-year-old moved to Liverpool when he was 15, and he said that his mother, in particular, has been a great source of help to him, but admitted that she does not yet agree with his aspirations to move into his own home.

Speaking to NBC, Sterling said: "At first I left my family behind and then about six months later or something they came up [to Liverpool] and we moved back together.

"My mum and my family have been really supportive, even when I first got here when I was 15, they supported me and we were communicating every day, and obviously now I'm at an age where I think I can live on my own, but my mum isn't having that!

"As a 15-year-old coming in, it's nerve-wracking, but it's exciting seeing all these world-class players but then you've got to realise that at some point you're going to be one of the older ones in the group, so you just have to settle as quickly as you can and that's the best way really. For me, I'm just pleased to be on the learning curve and trying to improve."

Sterling was part of the side that were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City on Monday evening.
