Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could miss the start of the season after injuring his ankle in England's draw with the Republic of Ireland.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could miss the start of the new season due to an ankle injury, according to a report.

The 23-year-old injured his ankle while playing for England in their draw with the Republic of Ireland at Wembley.

Brendan Rodgers's side fear that the damage may take up to four months to recover from, leaving the Reds short on options up front if Luis Suarez does leave the club, reports The Independent.

Sturridge joined Liverpool in January and scored 11 goals in just 16 appearances for the club last season.
