Virgil van Dijk believes that Liverpool have taken their standards "to a different level" this season after they were crowned Premier League champions.

Virgil van Dijk has said that Liverpool have taken their standards "to a different level" this season after they were crowned Premier League champions.

Liverpool's first league title in 30 years was confirmed after Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening.

The Dutchman, who joined Liverpool in 2017, admits that he did not believe success would come so quickly and that he is proud to call himself a Premier League winner.

"To be absolutely honest, when I joined in the winter, I hoped for the best. I hoped to settle as quickly as I could and to reach the Champions League final straight away was a big boost for me personally. It helped me a lot," the 28-year-old told BT Sport.

"The year after we came really close with the Premier League and we were lucky enough to win the Champions League. This year, especially with the Premier League, we've taken it to a different level. Everyone can have their opinions, but we have been so consistent.

"We have been incredible. To be part of this group of players, this journey that I started when I joined the club, I'm very proud to call myself a Premier League winner."

Liverpool's title triumph after 31 matches played means that Jurgen Klopp's side break the record for the earliest English top flight title win.
