Ray Wilkins: 'Daniel Sturridge should not be getting so many injuries'

Former England midfielder Ray Wilkins believes that injury-prone striker Daniel Sturridge "should be a lot fitter and not be getting these injuries that he is picking up".

Former England midfielder Ray Wilkins has criticised West Bromwich Albion loanee Daniel Sturridge for being so injury-prone.

The 28-year-old, who is on loan at The Hawthorns from Liverpool for the rest of the campaign, has been out of action for a month with a hamstring injury.

Sturridge has struggled with various injuries over the last few seasons, and as a result has played just 78 minutes since his switch to the Baggies in January.

"What has he played? 74 minutes since he has been on loan at West Brom," Wilkins told Sky Sports News. "That's nowhere nearly as the amount of games he should have been playing.

"I know he has got a hamstring injury, but these guys are very, very fit human beings now. He should be a lot fitter and not be getting these injuries that he is picking up, but he has certainly got the quality."

The Three Lions forward, who is believed to be back in training with West Brom, has started just seven Premier League games in total this season.
