Dean Furman condemns Tom Adeyemi abuse

Oldham captain Dean Furman believes that the abuse directed at Tom Adeyemi was a disgrace.

Oldham Athletic captain Dean Furman has condemned the alleged abuse directed at Tom Adeyemi in last night's FA Cup third round match at Anfield.

Adeyemi seemed to take offence to something shouted from the Kop towards the end of Oldham's 5-1 defeat, appearing visibly upset at the abuse, and Furman believes there is no place for such incidents in the game.

"He was abused and I'll leave it to Tom and the police to investigate that," Furman told BBC Radio Manchester.

"What happened should not happen in the game. It has been highlighted over the last few months and it is an absolute disgrace."

However, Furman would not confirm whether or not the alleged abuse was of a racial nature.

"When one of your boys is down like that we all feel it," he added.

"Tom, the authorities and police will sort out the situation. I hope the authorities take heavy action because it was a disgrace.

"A lot of credit goes to Tom for the way he handled the situation."

Liverpool, who have been criticised for their handling of the Luis Suarez racism row, are conducting an investigation into the incident.
