Liverpool confirm they have a deal in place to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool have announced that Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has agreed to move to Anfield next summer.

Arne Slot has had to remain patient for the Merseyside giants to come close to getting any deal over the line during the current transfer window.

Aside from being turned down by Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Liverpool have been prepared to play a waiting game with regards to bringing in fresh faces.

The breakthrough for this campaign may come in the form of Federico Chiesa, who is said to be closing in on a move from Juventus, but the Premier League outfit have confirmed that they have a deal in place for a high-profile arrival in 10 months time.

Mamardashvili on his way to Liverpool

On Tuesday evening, Liverpool revealed that terms had been finalised for Mamardashvili to complete a move to the club ahead of 2025-26.

While a transfer fee has not been revealed, Fabrizio Romano has reported that a package worth €30m (£25.3m) plus €5m (£4.2m) had been agreed.

The 23-year-old will spend the rest of the season as a Valencia player, rather than Liverpool taking up a foreign loan slot and sending Mamardashvili back to the Mestalla on a temporary basis.

He will continue between the sticks for the La Liga outfit having specified earlier this summer that he would not move to a bigger club to play the role of deputy.

Mamardashvili, who impressed for Georgia at Euro 2024, has started each of Valencia's opening two games in Spain's top flight, conceding five goals in defeats to Barcelona and Celta Vigo.

What now for Liverpool's current goalkeepers?

Mamardashvili's comments about not wanting to become a number two would seem to indicate that Alisson Becker may leave Liverpool next year.

The 31-year-old has recently reiterated that he is happy at the club despite well-documented interest from the Saudi Pro League.

With three years left on his contract, it is plausible that the Brazil international could remain at Liverpool past the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Meanwhile, second-choice Caoimhin Kelleher currently has no interest in extending his contract at Liverpool past 2026 with regular football his priority when a suitable offer arrives.

Despite there being interest in his signature from elsewhere, Liverpool appear increasingly likely to retain the Republic of Ireland international's services until at least next summer.
