Liverpool's hopes of landing AC Milan's Franck Kessie this summer are seemingly over, as the midfielder has decided to stay in Italy.
The Reds are in the market for a new midfielder, following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum, with the 24-year-old believed to be one of their targets this summer.
However, Kessie – who is currently representing Ivory Coast at the 2020 Olympic – has now provided an update on his future, expressing his desire to stay put with the Serie A outfit.
"I'm proud to have chosen Milan and it is not my intention to leave. Indeed, I want to stay forever," Kessie told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"When I come back from the Olympics, I'll fix everything. I just want Milan. Sporting director Paolo Maldini knows my thoughts".
Jurgen Klopp is now set to turn his attention to other targets, with Liverpool understood to be monitoring several midfielders across Europe, including Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez, Lyon's Houssem Aouar and Leicester City's Youri Tielemans.
