Ronald Koeman: 'Shane Long will not leave this month'

Republic of Ireland international and reported Liverpool target Shane Long will not be leaving Southampton this month, insists Saints boss Ronald Koeman.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has insisted that Shane Long will not be allowed to leave the Premier League club this month.

Speculation linking the striker with a move to Liverpool has grown in recent days, with the Reds said to be confident of signing the Republic of Ireland international.

Koeman, however, was irritated when questioned on Long's future in a press conference on Thursday and once again denied that the 28-year-old would depart St Mary's.

"Nobody will go out, maybe I have to repeat it 80 times more," Koeman told reporters when asked about Liverpool's reported interest in the club's No.7, who has scored five Premier League goals this season.

The news will also come as a blow for those interested in Saints midfielder Victor Wanyama, who has been linked with a number of clubs over the last couple of weeks.
