Leicester City are reportedly showing interest in Schalke 04 centre-back Ozan Kabak, with Liverpool unlikely to trigger the permanent deal in his loan contract.

Leicester City are reportedly interested in Schalke 04 centre-back Ozan Kabak, as Liverpool are expected to not trigger the clause in his loan contract.

Kabak arrived at Anfield in January as Jurgen Klopp looked to solve Liverpool's central defensive shortage, but after 13 appearances for the Reds the 21-year-old missed the last month of the season with a muscle injury.

As part of the loan deal with the German club, there was an option for the Premier League side to buy Kabak for £18m, however Liverpool are believed to be more interested in RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.

The Mirror reports that the Foxes are on the search to fill the boots of their retiring captain Wes Morgan, and Kabak could join Leicester's list of centre-backs including Wesley Fofana, Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans.

Whether the Turkish international wants to continue in the Premier League remains unknown, but what is clear is that he wants to continue to develop as an individual, telling Liverpool's official programme: "I try to plan about my career and be better at what I do instead of daydreaming.

"In football, teams can become champions by winning games and footballers can become more valuable by improving themselves. And I am focused on being a much more valuable asset for my club and country."

Kabak has been named in Turkey's provisional 30-strong squad for the European Championships this summer, with that provisional squad being trimmed to 26 players by the end of this month.
