Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew denies that the club are interested in signing Liverpool winger Stewart Downing.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that the club are not interested in signing Liverpool winger Stewart Downing.

Recent reports have suggested that the Magpies were prepared to offer £5m for Downing.

"I don't know where that really come from," the Hartlepool Mail quotes Pardew as saying. "There's been no enquiry from us, and we have made no noises to Liverpool."

The winger moved to Anfield from Aston Villa in 2011 for a reported £20m fee.
